Chantix

Are you smoke....???
you can stop smoke with this one " chantix

What is Chantix?

Chantix (varenicline) is a smoking cessation medicine. It is used together with behavior modification and counseling support to help you stop smoking. Chantix works in the brain to block the pleasurable effects of smoking. This helps to decrease your desire to keep smoking.

Chantix may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about Chantix?

Before using Chantix, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, circulation problems, kidney disease, or a history of depression or mental illness. You may choose from 2 ways to use Chantix. Ask your doctor which of the following methods is best for you: To improve your chances for successful smoking cessation, be sure to quit smoking on your planned quit date.
After you stop smoking, the doses of any medications you are using may need to be adjusted. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use, especially insulin, blood thinners, or asthma medication.
Stop using Chantix and call your doctor at once if you have: any mood or behavior changes, confusion, anxiety, panic attacks, hallucinations, extreme fear, or if you feel impulsive, agitated, aggressive, restless, hostile, depressed, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. Chantix may impair your thinking or reactions. You may also have mood or behavior changes when you quit smoking. Until you know how Chantix and the smoking cessation process is going to affect you, be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be cautious and alert.

Before taking Chantix
To make sure you can safely take Chantix, tell your doctor if you have any of these other conditions:
  • heart disease, circulation problems;
  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); or
  • a history of depression or mental illness.
FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether Chantix will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. It is not known whether varenicline passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use Chantix without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give this medication to anyone under 18 years old

Way to Brush Your Teeth

Tired of dreading the drilling and nonstop scraping at the dentist?
Your days of misery may be coming to an end.
Researchers from the University of Missouri have been working with a new device that may offer a pain-free alternative to the oh-so-popular dentist’s drill.
This device—the non-thermal argon plasma brush—kills bacteria and eliminates the decayed pulp of the tooth by blasting it out with high-energy gas and liquid particles. The appeal: It doesn’t affect the highly sensitive nerves in the teeth, so it’s less painful.
But there’s a catch: These non-thermal argon plasma brushes are still going through clinical trials, so they’re not going to be available to dentists for at least another year or so
So what’s a guy to do? Take care of your teeth, of course. But chances are, your brushing habits could use a big upgrade. So we got in contact with Kenneth Young, D.D.S., the Men’s Health dentistry advisor, to give you some tips on how to impress your dentist (and avoid a lot of unnecessary pain).
Floss Before Brushing.
Floss once a day, preferably before you go to bed (considering you’ll have more time in the evenings), says Dr. Young. It’s also best to floss prior to brushing—that way you’re freeing up the spaces in between your teeth, allowing the toothpaste to penetrate into those gaps.

Go Electric.
These days, many dentists are pushing their clients toward buying electric toothbrushes. Using the electronic version not only makes you brush for at least 2 minutes (many of the new models have built-in timers), but also they’re less abrasive, which helps clean sensitive gums, says Dr. Young.
Improve Your Technique.
Brush twice a day for at least 2 minutes per session, says Dr. Young. Brush your teeth in a circular motion. Follow up by gently brushing your gum line—start at the gum line and then brush away from it, says Dr. Young.

End Your Night with Mouthwash.
Many people tend to rinse prior to leaving for work (which is great), but if you follow up with mouthwash in the evening, it can reach the spots freed up by flossing, says Dr. Young.
Keep Up with Cleanings.
Guys should try to visit the dentist at least twice a year, says Dr. Young. After 6 months is when the decay begins, so if you get them cleaned every 6 months, you should be in the clear

Get the stonger sperm

What you eat affects more than your waistline—it also may impact your semen. According to the journalHuman Reproduction, men who eat more omega-3 fatty acid had higher-quality semen than men who skimped on omega-3s. Consuming lots of saturated fat was also associated with lower semen quality than men who limited sat fats.
That’s not to say that either of these caused the effects on sperm quality—it only establishes a correlation, says study author Jill Attaman, M.D., who was at Massachusetts General Hospital and an instructor at Harvard Medical School at the time the research was conducted. (That’s important to remember when you read about saturated fats, which have been wrongly demonized for years. Don’t believe us?
When the day arrives that you want kids, you want your semen in top-notch condition. So here are some baby—er, simple—steps you can take to keep your sperm strong and healthy.

Hit the Gym
You probably work out to keep your heart healthy and sculpt a six pack. But with each dumbbell you curl, you help your swimmers grow stronger, too. Research shows that regular exercise triggers the production of testosterone, which supports sperm and semen health.
Skip the Smoky Bars
Sure, you don’t smoke. But what about that hot girl next to you puffing away? Turns out, she might be shrinking your chances of having kids. A mouse study found that exposure to secondhand smoke damages sperm DNA—and those mutations could be passed along to baby mice. Don’t care about mutant mice sperm? You should. Researchers say the data collected for mice is compelling evidence that human exposure to secondhand smoke could have similar outcomes.
Keep Cool
Holding a laptop on your lap or sitting on heated car seats—basically anything that puts direct heat on the scrotum—can fry your swimmers. Check out these other surprising items that may be damaging your goods.

Hair loss.....are'nt you???

how you look with hair loss????
are u like it or hate it???

this a story and tips from Dr Julie T chen to fight with hair loss..

Vin Diesel and Jason Statham make baldness sexy. But that look doesn’t work for anyone, and plenty of men out there would just as soon keep their locks flowing, thank you very much. I understand that, and the topic comes up frequently with my male patients, who find themselves battling what seems to be an unstoppable slide toward chrome domes.
Male pattern baldness is responsible for about 95 percent of baldness in men, with approximately two-thirds of American men experiencing some level of thinning hair by age 35. This can be devastating and can affect many aspects of a man’s life, from their interpersonal relationships to their own perception of life, happiness, and satisfaction. It can also impact their professional lives—their confidence wanes, baldness jokes may zing around the office, etc.

When the subject comes up, men are mostly interested in prevention. On any given day, I have at least one male patient in my clinic asking about hair loss medications such as Propecia or Avodart and wanting to know whether it is a good idea and if so, are their side effects they need to watch out for. While acknowledging the potentially devastating impact of thinning hair, as a doctor, I still caution guys about safety issues, as long-term negative effects are a real concern. We see and hear about men who use these medications and have been able to maintain their hairline despite a strong family predisposition for hair loss, but we hear much less frequently  about the risks. Face it: if a man has developed more breast tissue or sexual dysfunction because of the medication, he is less likely to talk about that with his friends and more likely to discuss the positive effect of maintaining hair.
So let’s discuss some pros and cons of these medications, and shed some light on how to stay healthy while on your quest for a full head of hair. Ultimately, you may find these healthier options as even sexier than the quick-fix medications that come with problematic side effects … because the side effects definitely are not sexy. And if something is touted as a “quick fix” and seems too good to be true, there usually is some level of a downside to it. So let’s take a look at the downside of these ‘magic bullet’ medications.

We’ll start with DHT. This is a natural hormone in the body found at higher levels in men than women, and it plays a significant role in hair loss, The more there is of DHT, the more potential for hair loss. So it makes sense that hair loss medications will target this hormone to block it so that the rate of hair loss is slowed. However, as you can imagine, if you block a natural male hormone, the potential side effects probably aren’t going to be that appealing. These ‘magic bullets’ may lead to breast tissue enlargement, decreased ability to build muscle mass or increased muscle weakness, altered ability for us to monitor the prostate cancer blood marker called PSA, decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, decreased semen production, and decreased sensation with sexual intercourse. It may also lead to depression and low mood, as well as increased fatigue.
The reason for all these potential side effects is because there are DHT and testosterone receptors in our brain, sexual organs, muscles, and almost everywhere in our body to varying degrees. When you start to mess around with a hormone that is naturally meant to be at certain levels in our body but you artificially block it, it doesn’t just affect your hair line…it also affects many other organs. There are concerns that even after men come off the hair loss medications that these effects may persist to some degree or another.
There is also growing concern that prostate cancers found in men who are on hair loss medications seem to be more advanced and aggressive in its staging. This could be because of the medication altering our ability to monitor the PSA level or it may affect the male hormonal balance thus leading to changes in prostate cancer risks.
Regardless of the reason, all of these concerns are real and problematic; not just for the doctors caring for men who are on these medications, but for the men themselves. Many of the side effects can be devastating to interpersonal relationships, self-perception and professional life—just like hair loss would.
So, if you are a man battling male pattern baldness or worried about potential thinning hair because of your family history, but now you are worried about the side effects of hair loss medications, what can you do? There are natural ways to help prevent hair loss. Smoking and alcohol can impede healthy hair growth, so avoiding these would help. An assortment of vitamins and nutrients also help to support hair growth. These include B vitamins, protein, iron, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin C, healthy fats, curcumin, and water. In a study from the Archives of Dermatology, curcumin was seen to inhibit TGF Beta One, which plays a role in the death of hair follicles. Interestingly, this ingredient is starting to show up in some shampoos, but I have my patients take it in supplement form and in their food because it has anti-cancer anti-inflammatory properties as well.
When you look at shampoos, it’s important to look for ones that are sulfate-free and organic. Many of the preservatives and chemicals in shampoos may not be beneficial in promoting healthy hair follicles. Similarly, heavy metals in our water may be damaging as well so installing a filter on your shower head would be a good idea if you are trying to create the healthiest environment for your scalp and hair as possible.
Lastly, good scalp circulation is important for hair growth, so massage your scalp during your shower and make sure you are getting a broad gamut of nutrients, like circulation-boosting B3 from your foods to help maximize blood flow to your hair follicles. Other options to help with increasing scalp circulation include scalp acupuncture and cranio-sacral therapy. You can check with your doctor about reputable practitioners in your area.
However, if all else fails with these natural methods of preventing hair loss and you feel that you have to try the hair-loss medications, make sure your doctor is monitoring your hormone levels and your thyroid levels. You should make sure you are not anemic, do not have an autoimmune disease, and that your thyroid is performing optimally, because various diseases can predispose you to greater hair loss.

If your labs are normal, then you should get a baseline DHT and monitor your estrogen, testosterone, DHEA-s, and DHT levels regularly while on the medication. Monitoring is key if you are going the medication route in order to ensure maximum benefit with minimal side effects.
If your baseline DHT is “low-normal,” using a DHT-blocking medication may just lead to side effects and not much benefit. If you do use the medication, make sure it isn’t blocking so much of the DHT that your hormone pathway is being shunted towards increased estrogen levels. That may lead to breast tissue issues, decreased muscular functioning, and sexual dysfunction.
Despite this being an understandingly difficult situation, keep in mind that the sexiest way to prevent the negative effects of hair loss is to embrace what you have and to remember that you being comfortable with yourself is undoubtedly the sexiest version of you that anyone can ask for.

8 ways to prevent cancer...

Cancer is a scary disease...from right now we can prevent it.....
1. Avoid tobacco in all its forms, including exposure to secondhand smoke.

2. Choose a healthy diet. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods.

3. Exercise regularly. Physical activity has been linked to a reduced risk of colon cancer, and may help prevent breast and prostate cancer.

4. Stay lean. Obesity increases the risk of many forms of cancer. Calories count; if you need to slim down, take in fewer calories and burn more with exercise.

. If you choose to drink, limit yourself to one to two drinks a day. Excess alcohol increases the risk of cancers of the mouth, larynx (voice box), esophagus (food pipe) and liver. It also increases a woman’s risk of breast cancer.

6. Avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation. Get medical imaging studies only when you need them. Check your home for residential radon, which increases the risk of lung cancer. Cover up or use sunscreen when out in the sun.
7. Avoid exposure to industrial and environmental toxins, such as asbestos fibers.
8. Avoid infections that contribute to cancer. Examples include hepatitis viruses, HIV, and the human papillomavirus (HPV). Many are transmitted sexually infections; practicing safe sex helps.

Is brown rice better ?????

by Jesicca G

Brown or white rice? Diabetes risk jumps 11 percent for each serving of white rice eaten per day, according to a new meta-analysis of Asian and US/Australian populations published in BMJ.
But white rice doesn’t necessarily cause diabetes, says Clyde Wilson, Ph.D., a nutrition professor in the Stanford University and University of California, San Francisco schools of medicine. “The reality is that eating too much of any carbohydrate, including brown rice, can lead to diabetes,” he says.
White rice is implicated because of its high glycemic index (GI). High GI diets tend to spike blood sugar levels quickly and are associated with diabetes. However, “the glycemic index of brown rice is only about 10 to 20 percent less than white, so it digests relatively quickly, too.” (Not to mention, there areseveral problems with the GI measure to begin with.) It’s more about the amount you’re eating, less about the type.
Rice can be a healthy part of your diet. They key is to slow the rate your body digests carbs, so they don’t cause a dangerous rise of glucose in your bloodstream.
First, choose white or brown based on—and here’s a brilliant idea—what you like best. Whether eating white or brown, add raw veggies, like a side salad. “Foods act as a team within a meal and vegetables will slow down digestion and cancel out any negative effects of the rice,” says Wilson.

Soda and heart disease

You already know soda is a big fat problem for your waistline
. But new research finds that it’s not too sweet for your heart, either
. Just one sugary drink a day increases a man’s risk of a heart attack by 20 percent,
according to a study in the journal Circulation.

Harvard researchers analyzed 22 years of data gathered from almost 43,000 men. During that time period, 3,683 men suffered from heart attacks. The men who consumed the most sugary beverages—like soda, sports drinks, and energy drinks—were at a higher risk of having a heart attack compared to non-drinkers. This increase persisted even after the researchers accounted for other risk factors like smoking, family history of coronary heart disease, and physical inactivity.
“The sugar-sweetened beverages and coronary heart disease is probably due to the large amount of easily digested sugar in these drinks,” says study author Lawrence de Koning, Ph.D. These cause higher levels of inflammation and harmful lipids in the blood, which are both indicators of heart disease.

The more you consume, the more your risk increases. For each additional serving of sugary beverages per day, the associated risk of heart disease increased by 19 to 25 percent. And that’s a problem for Americans. According to the American Heart Association, sugar-sweetened drinks made up 3.9 percent of our daily calories in the late 1970s to 9.2 percent in 2001 in the United States.
Don’t ditch all sugar, though. Natural sugars found in foods like fruit and milk are fine, since these foods offer plenty of nutrition (plus, in the case of fruit, fiber to blunt blood sugar spikes).
“Sugar-sweetened beverages should be treated as a rare treat,” says de Konig. Having a sugary drink less often—such as twice weekly or twice monthly—didn’t increase the participants’ heart attack risk, researchers found. Diet versions weren’t linked to cardiovascular disease either. (But choosing no-calorie diet over the regular sugary soda might not be the smarter choice. Research shows that

three meds who have scary side effects

Sure, medicine is supposed to make you feel better—but before you go popping prescription pills, you may want to look into their side effects. ????

there are three med must you know about the side effect...

 Ambien
Ambien (zolpidem tartrate) is commonly prescribed to treat insomnia. But upon closer inspection, it appears this little pill does much more than help the sleep-deprived catch some Zs. According to early case studies published in the journal Sleep Medicine, patients who were on Ambien began developing odd habits such as “sleep eating”— some having no memory of their odd behavior upon waking. Yet as time passed (and the side effects continued to worsen), the FDA slapped this on Ambien’s Medication Guide: “After taking AMBIEN, you may get up out of bed while not being fully awake and do an activity that you do not know you are doing. The next morning, you may not remember that you did anything during the night.”
And as for those activities referenced above that you “may not remember”—that list was also printed on Ambien’s Medication Guide: driving a car (“sleep driving”), making and eating food, talking on the phone, having sex, and walking around.
If you’re looking for something a little less extreme to help you catch some shuteye, try an alternative such as Sonata. The pill—typically used by individuals who wake during the night and need to fall back asleep—will only keep you under for about 4 hours.
Chantix
Chantix (or Varenicline) is prescribed to help you quit smoking. But after getting a load of this medication’s crazy side effects, you may feel safer quitting cold turkey. In a recent study published in the journal PLoS One, researchers analyzed more than 3,000 reports of suicidal behaviors or depression in people taking Chantix, Zyban,or nicotine replacement drugs and found that 90 percent of the reports were linked with Chantix. Since learning of all the extreme side effects associated with Chantix, the FDA placed a “black box” warning label on the drug—which is the strongest warning the FDA can give out—informing doctors and patients about the risks of depression, hostility, and suicidal thoughts.
The FDA also required the following statement to be published on the Medication Guide: “Serious neuropsychiatric events have been reported in patients taking CHANTIX”—as well as a lengthy list of side effects, including: serious skin reactions, cardiovascular events, night terrors, insomnia, nervous system disorders, and eye disorders.
If you’re looking to wean yourself off  Chantix, aim for a more noninvasive method such as nicotine-replacement therapy (think the patch, gum, etc). According to research from the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, these nicotine-replacement therapies can increase your chance of quitting by 50 to 70 percent. (And if you’re interested in more information on ditching the drugs.
Ropinirole
Ropinirole—also known as Requip—is used to treat individuals with Parkinson’s disease as well as restless legs syndrome. Common side effects include constipation, dizziness, increased sweating, lightheadedness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and weakness. But that’s not the strange part. It’s this: The Medication Guide lists “Falling Asleep During Activities of Daily Living” as it’s first side effect under its “warning and precautions” section. To quote, “Patients treated with ropinirole have reported falling asleep while engaged in activities of daily living, including the operation of motor vehicles, which sometimes resulted in accidents.”
But if falling asleep sporadically throughout your day doesn’t catch your attention—the research published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings just might. Researchers monitored the medical records of 267 patients who were taking Ropinirole between July 1, 2004, and June 30, 2006, and found that, due to the drug, nearly 20 percent of the subjects were documented with hypersexuality as well as experiencing the new-onset of compulsive gambling.
And although there is no cure for Parkinson’s, there are other treatment methods out there. If you’re looking to avoid meds, you could always try a more natural route. According to the National Parkinson Foundation, exercising (walking, jogging, or biking) can help ease the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s and improve a person’s coordination, motor function, and manual dexterity.
